MI6 MAKES UNPRECEDENTED INTERVENTION
IN US ELECTION TO HELP GEORGE BUSH

by
Gordon Thomas

MI6 has made an unprecedented intervention in the US election campaign by providing the Pentagon with the detailed evidence that Saddam Hussein DID have materials for the manufacture of weapons of mass destruction.
They were transferred to Syria by Russian Special Forces shortly before the war started in March 2003.
"Dozens of heavy trucks were used", states the report.
The revelation will provide a powerful boost to President Bush's and Tony Blair's claims that Saddam had the means to make a nuclear bomb. The report could also have a decisive effect in the US election.
The Russian-made RDX and HMX is used in the manufacture of nuclear weapons.
John Shaw, the deputy under-secretary of defence in the Pentagon for international technology security, has revealed he had obtained "reliable information from two European intelligence services that have detailed knowledge of what happened".
His revelation followed a secret visit to London by a senior member of his staff to see John Scarlett, head of MI6.
The Pentagon officer was shown the detailed report that MI6 had prepared. It described how Russian Special Forces flew into Baghdad a month before the start of war in 2003. Under the orders of Russia's President Vladimir Putin, the 30 tons of Russian manufactured RDX and HMX needed to make nuclear bombs was transported into Syria.
The MI6 report detailed that the Russian arms removal operation - spread over three weeks - came after Putin had failed to persuade Saddam to give in to US and British demands to allow unlimited inspection of Iraq's hoard of weapons.
Among other details in the MI6 report are:
Russia had supplied over 600,000 tons of conventional arms to Saddam.
Saddam had paid the Kremlin to provide their Special Forces to guard the arms.
Russia also arranged for Saddam to receive arms from Ukraine and Belarus.
As well as arms, Russia also supplied Saddam with chemicals used to make chemical weapons.
These bombshell revelations by MI6 have raised furious questions in Washington.
Did Downing Street authorise MI6 to reveal its report on the eve of the election to provide support for Bush?
How long has the report existed?
The Democratic presidential campaign has accused the Bush Administration of failing to protect the basic materials for weapons of mass destruction.
But the MI6 report shows that the Russian Special Forces removed the material to Syria "weeks before the war against Saddam began in March 2003".
"They were moved as part of a carefully designed programme in advance of the conflict", John Shaw confirmed.
Mr Shaw said the withdrawal of Russian-made weapons and explosives from Iraq was part of Saddam's plan to use Syria as a launching pad for insurgent operations in Iraq.
"Those Russian made materials could already have been used against US and British forces in Iraq", concluded the MI6 report.
